Interview Resources - Q&A with Carole Marsh
Why did you choose to focus on the Hilton Head Harbour Town Lighthouse?
“Inititally, my focus was the famous lighthouse at Sea Pines, but when I did my research, I discovered the historic Hilton Head lighthouse and that enhanced my story greatly!”
What made you choose Hilton Head Island as the location of your latest book?
“Hilton Head has been on my list for a long time, so I am thrilled to share it in time for back-to-school and the holiday season. I love anything that gives me an excuse to go over the bridges and visit this lovely island, and, to discover new things about it.”
Do you have a personal connection to the Lowcountry area?
“I lived in Savannah’s historic district for twelve years, then in Palmetto Bluff for five, and now I have moved to downtown Beaufort. I just can’t get away from this beautiful place with so much history, mystery, legend, lore and beauty!”
Tell us about your day-to-day life in the Lowcounty...
" You can expect to see me signing books in Beaufort county, visiting schools, and walking my dog, Coconut, on the Beaufort waterfront. Of course there will be a new Lowcountry book (Or two, or three, or…) and one of them will absolutely include Coconut, my new rescue pup! Ever-inspired by new Lowcountry surroundings, I do not let any grass grow under my feet."
What other Lowcountry-related titles have you written?
"So many, and always working on more!
The Ghost Ship is a picture book story on an old shrimp trawler on the May River, The Mystery at Fort Thunderbolt (Fort Pulaski), The Ghost of Pickpocket Plantation (on the SC/GA border), and The Secret of Eyesocket island (a World War II-related mystery set on a coastal barrier island)."
