Hi friends!
At school our teachers are starting to talk about Read Across America Day. The purpose of this really cool holiday is to celebrate reading and it is always on March 2 – Dr. Seuss’s birthday! A long time ago some grown-ups found out that encouraging kids to read would actually help them do better in school, so they created Read Across America Day and celebrated it for the first time on March 2, 1998.
We’re reading books with our classes at school, but we’re also reading some books at home with our family. These are “If I Ran the Zoo” by Dr. Seuss and “Adventure to Planet Mars” by Carole Marsh. Hey, you should read along with us! You can even check out the first three chapters here!
Our school will be doing a lot of fun things for Read Across America! We’re having a Reading Spirit Day where we have to wear red and white to school. Each class is also going to decorate their classroom door like scenes from books they have been reading together. The best thing will be the school’s Reading Challenge though! We’ve been given a challenge of a number of books to read and if we meet the challenge our principal is going to dress up like a clown for a day!
