Celebrating Native American Heritage Month
Updated: Dec 7, 2020
Hello Clubbers!
I hope you are as interested in North America’s wonderful Native American heritage as I am!
Like most kids, I grew up thinking of Native Americans as the other half of Cowboys. Today, of course, we are getting a much clearer and more accurate picture of what the first peoples on our land were all about. These “facts” are much more fascinating than anything Hollywood can make up.
I am 1/16 Cherokee. This is something I am very proud of and happy about. My grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee. She had tan skin, long gray hair! Her maiden name was Carrie Corn. When she got married, she took her husband’s name, so it was many years before I learned to appreciate the significance of my native heritage.
Today, I’m trying to make up for lost time by exploring my roots as deeply as I
can. One of the most interesting things I’ve learned is how fascinating all of the
Native American tribes are – in the past, the present and future! As you read about Native Americans, remember that all native peoples were part of an ever changing network of time, ideas, power and luck — good and bad.
